Subject Outline

This subject will allow the participant to supervise the removal process for friable and non-friable asbestos containing material (ACM). The subject includes planning for and supervising the removal process, including preparation of the work area and the worksite, using safe and compliant removal practices, maintaining safety procedures, and supervising the decontamination and removal processes onsite.

Ensuring compliance with the asbestos removal control plan (ARCP) is central to the effective performance of the role, along with ensuring and documenting air monitoring and other testing and certification processes, conducted by licensed asbestos assessors according to legislation.

Potential worksite locations include domestic, commercial, demolition and construction, ships, soils and fences.

Participants are advised to check for regulatory requirements relating to relevant industry experience for licensing purposes as this subject is required for all supervisors of the ACM removal process.

Candidates wishing to supervise friable ACM removal must complete CPCCCDE3015 Remove friable asbestos. Candidates wishing to supervise non-friable ACM removal must complete CPCCCDE3014 Remove non-friable asbestos.

This subject will cover:

  • Adhere to the asbestos removal control plan (ARCP), regulatory and environmental legislation.
  • Relevant government building legislation, codes and standards
  • Implementing the ARCP with control monitoring, clearance inspections and certifications
  • Using the certified work health and safety (WHS) management system and emergency plan
  • Processes, procedures and techniques of asbestos removal
  • Workplace safety requirement
  • Plans, drawings and specifications, asbestos registers and documentation relating to asbestos removal
  • Organisation’s quality assurance requirements
  • Environmental requirements and sustainability principles
  • Duties and obligations of the supervisory role
  • Contingency planning
  • Locations of friable and non-friable asbestos.

CPCCWHS1001: Prepare to work safely in the construction industry

CPCCDE3014: Remove non-friable asbestos

CPCCDE3015: Remove friable asbestos

Assessment

Trainees will be assessed by short answer and multiple-choice questions and use of practical exercises.
