Predominantly used in the resources and infrastructure industries.
This Subject will give an understanding of how to effectively use a safety harness system and associated equipment when working at heights where a person has the potential to fall from one level to another. Participants will also gain knowledge on the legal requirements, systems and procedures to conduct work safely at height, management of proprietary height safety systems and procedures.
This Subject will provide you with the necessary skills to identify the correct equipment, carry out pre-start checks, and learn how to use the harness safely in conjunction with other height safety equipment. Participants will gain an understanding of hazard and risk management process, specifically associated with heights systems. Knowledge of the importance of having a rescue plan and recovery methods in place, prior to beginning any at height activity.
This subject does not cover the erection of scaffold or work platforms, but it does include identifying and reporting common faults with scaffold or work platform systems.

Subject Content
- General knowledge of the hazards associated with wearing a safety harness and the associated equipment
- How to check and fit a safety harness where a fall hazard exists at height and following the emergency and rescue plans in the event of a fall
- Selection of common types of height safety equipment and use of different types of fall arrest equipment
- Hazards associated with scaffolds, mobile elevated work platforms, ladders, guardrails, walkways, ramps, stairways, anchor points for fall arrest, temporary proprietary height safety systems
Pre-Requisite Requirements
Assessment
Trainees will be assessed by short answer questions and case study/scenario problems.
A practical training portion will also be required to be completed for this subject.
